Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to our boutique hotel in Moshi. In the evening we gather for a welcome dinner and a gentle Yin yoga practice to settle into the rhythm of the journey.
A relaxed day to recover from travel with time by the pool, optional yoga, and an optional visit to Children of Kilimanjaro Orphanage (COKO).Nestled in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Pink Flamingo offers a peaceful setting to rest, reconnect, and settle into the rhythm of Tanzania before our journey begins.
Guests who wish to participate may join an optional visit to Children of Kilimanjaro Orphanage (COKO), a local organization supporting children and families in the region. This experience offers an opportunity to connect with the community, learn about daily life in Tanzania, and share meaningful moments through conversation, play, and cultural exchange.
A guided day hike takes us through the lush rainforest of Kilimanjaro National Park, where towering trees, birdsong, and mist-covered trails reveal a completely different side of Tanzania. Reaching Mandara Hut offers an opportunity to experience the mountain's unique ecosystem while enjoying spectacular views and a rewarding sense of accomplishment.
Guests who prefer a slower pace may choose a restorative day at Pink Flamingo Boutique Hotel, with time for yoga, massage, relaxation by the pool, or simply soaking in the peaceful surroundings beneath Mount Kilimanjaro.
Travel into the Kilimanjaro countryside for a hike to Materuni Waterfall followed by a traditional coffee experience and local lunch.
Nestled on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, Materuni Village offers a glimpse into the traditions of the Chaga people. Together we'll hike to the waterfall, learn how coffee is grown, harvested, roasted, and prepared, and enjoy a home-cooked local lunch. This immersive experience blends nature, culture, and connection in a uniquely Tanzanian way.
Over the coming days, Amani Light will serve as our home base for rest, reflection, community, and exploration. With thoughtfully designed spaces, nourishing meals, and opportunities for yoga and mindfulness, it provides the perfect setting to pause, recharge, and deepen your experience of the journey.
A guided walk through the Maasai community offers time with a young Maasai warrior who shares stories of tradition, daily life, and the deep connection between people, land, and livestock. We'll also meet Maasai women and spend time inside a traditional boma, gaining insight into everyday life and cultural traditions that have been passed down through generations.
After lunch, enjoy free time at the retreat, including a complimentary massage for each guest, time to relax, journal, or simply take in the peaceful surroundings of Amani Light.
As evening falls, we gather around the fire for a drumming circle, sharing music, rhythm, and connection beneath the African sky.
Begin the day with a guided visit to the bustling outdoor market in Moshi, gathering fresh ingredients alongside a local Chaga guide.
Later, we divide into smaller groups for a traditional cooking experience with Chaga hosts, preparing and sharing a meal together in an outdoor family kitchen. We'll also visit local fabric shops and tailors, where guests may choose their own fabric and be fitted for a custom garment.
From vibrant market stalls to family kitchens and local businesses, today's experiences offer a deeper connection to the people, traditions, and everyday life of northern Tanzania.
We depart the Kilimanjaro region and travel toward the Ngorongoro Highlands, stopping in Arusha to visit Shanga, a social enterprise that employs people with disabilities to create beautiful handmade crafts. We enjoy lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge, set among lush gardens on a working coffee plantation, before continuing through the highlands to our lodge near Karatu, the gateway to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
We stop at Shanga, a remarkable social enterprise that employs people with disabilities to create beautiful handmade products from recycled and locally sourced materials. As we tour the workshops and meet members of the Shanga community, we'll learn about the organization's inspiring mission and the impact it has throughout the region.
Enjoy lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge, a beautiful property set within a working coffee estate. Surrounded by lush gardens and coffee plants, it's the perfect place to relax and reflect before continuing our journey into the Ngorongoro Highlands.
By late afternoon we arrive at our lodge near Karatu, gateway to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Surrounded by rolling hills and lush gardens, it's the perfect place to unwind and prepare for tomorrow's safari adventure.
A full-day safari exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa's most extraordinary wildlife ecosystems. Descending into the crater, we'll spend the day observing wildlife in its natural habitat while taking in the dramatic landscapes that make this place so remarkable. In the evening, we continue to our tented safari camp in the Ndutu region.
By late afternoon we arrive at our tented safari camp near Lake Masek. Surrounded by open plains and vast skies, this unique setting offers an opportunity to slow down, reflect on the day's experiences, and enjoy the magic of the African wilderness before tomorrow's safari adventure.
Today we journey into the Serengeti, home to some of Africa's most iconic wildlife and landscapes. January often coincides with the Great Migration calving season, when thousands of wildebeest gather on the southern plains. Along the way, we enjoy game viewing and take in the vastness of this remarkable ecosystem before settling into our safari lodge for the next three nights.
By afternoon we arrive at our safari lodge overlooking the Serengeti plains. The next three nights offer time to fully immerse ourselves in the rhythm of the wilderness, with early morning game drives, spectacular sunsets, and opportunities to witness wildlife in one of the world's most celebrated safari destinations.
Two full days are spent exploring the Serengeti with morning and afternoon game drives led by expert guides. Between safaris, there is time to relax at the lodge, enjoy the surrounding landscape, and simply take in the rhythm of life on the Serengeti.

After our bush flight from the Serengeti, we return to Arusha and settle into our hotel. Later, we visit the Cultural Heritage Centre, home to one of East Africa's largest collections of art, jewelry, and cultural artifacts. The evening is free to relax, reflect on the journey so far, and enjoy a quieter pace after our days on safari.

Our final nights are spent at Arusha Explorers Lodge, a peaceful retreat set beneath Mount Meru. Comfortable accommodations, beautiful gardens, and time to unwind provide a gentle transition before the journey home.
Our final full day offers space to slow down, relax, and reflect on the experiences and connections formed throughout the journey. In the evening, we gather for a farewell dinner and closing celebration with music, shared stories, and the much-anticipated custom dress reveal from earlier in the journey.
After breakfast, group transfers will be provided to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for departing flights. Safe travels, and thank you for sharing this journey with us.

A Few Helpful Travel Tips
January is warm and sunny, so lightweight clothing and sun protection are recommended.
Comfortable walking shoes are useful for village visits, markets, and nature walks.
While Tanzania is welcoming and relaxed, modest dress is appreciated when visiting villages and cultural sites.
U.S. dollars (issued 2009 or later) are widely accepted, though smaller purchases are often made in Tanzanian Shillings.
